Choose a yo-yo display case using both the yo-yo's diameter and its axial width, then include its support and the way you retain the string. Two pieces with a similar round outline can occupy different depths. Decide whether you want to see a cup face, the rim profile or a collection of colors before assigning compartment positions.
Record the complete yo-yo in its intended position
Identify the actual model and configuration, including any projecting hubs or fitted parts. Record diameter and total axial width as separate measurements with units. Preserve whether they came from a maker's specification or your own measurement; a front photograph is not a substitute for the side profile.
Keep the yo-yo assembled for the proposed display unless its instructions and your collecting purpose call for something else. Splitting it into halves changes both the displayed object and the support task. Do not treat disassembly as an automatic way to fit a shallow compartment.
Include the chosen string arrangement in the outline. A loose loop beside the yo-yo or a wound string can occupy space absent from a body-only size line. Record how the actual item will sit without pinching that string in a closing panel.
For general measurements, use the collection measurement guide. The yo-yo-specific requirement is to keep the circular diameter, independent axial width and string state visible in the same receiving record.
Read actual positions rather than nominal case counts
| Case | Published specification | Unresolved receiving question |
|---|---|---|
| YOYOFORMULA wooden display at YoYoSam | 20 version: 13.25 × 10.5 × 2 in. 30 version: 16 × 13.5 × 2 in. Approximate “2.25 cube” wording for each box. | Axis and inside/outside labels; finished compartment width, height and depth for the selected version. |
| G2 Mini FOV | Six foam positions for 50–60 mm diameter; a clear Plexi Glass panel, removable shoulder strap and feet on bottom/back. | Accepted axial width, full outer size, restraint details and intended loaded handling. |
| sOMEThING acrylic case at REWIND | Inner size 57 × 57 × 44 mm; four magnets hold the cover; small side logo; yo-yo excluded. | Labeled directions, usable supported profile, string space and full outside footprint. |
The wooden listing's cube wording and its 2-inch size line do not establish a consistent clear cavity. Ask for a dimensioned drawing rather than silently selecting one number or assuming that every direction is 2.25 inches. The advertised count also belongs to the selected version, not every yo-yo size.
G2's 50–60 mm range describes diameter. It does not provide a second range for axial width, which still matters for a broad yo-yo. The cited page describes the six-position Mini FOV; do not transfer that range or its construction to a larger FOV or another case in the maker's related products.
REWIND explicitly calls the three-number tuple an inner size, which is useful, but it does not label the axes. Establish the orientation of the actual yo-yo and support within that cavity. A diameter accepted by one foam product does not establish fit in a different rectangular box.
Choose which cup and string arrangement the viewer should see
A cup-facing row can make graphics and colorways easier to compare. A side-oriented position can reveal width and rim shape. Choose a primary view for each group so that a deep cup or an unusual profile is not hidden merely to preserve an identical front alignment.
For pieces whose two sides differ, decide how the other side will be documented. A second photograph in the inventory can retain that view without requiring frequent handling inside a tightly filled case. Do not infer an item's maker, edition or authenticity from a colorway alone.
Choose how the string will be retained using the yo-yo and holder instructions. Keep it distinguishable from a neighboring piece's string and from loose accessories. If the display is regularly used for practice, assign a clear return position so the record reflects what is actually present.
An open cradle is a separate choice from an enclosure
The Yo-Yo Collective Black Cradle is described as a 3D-printed stand, with plain or Alpine/Storm inscriptions and one stand supplied. Its returned description gives no numeric receiving range. An inscription option is not a complete compatibility specification.
The Topsyo stands category separately names a Yo-Hex stand, CompDock and display bundle. Those labels alone do not define each product's supported width or include a surrounding cover. Ask about the exact item before adding it to a case comparison.
For a cradle under a separate cover, include the cradle's footprint, loaded height and intended contact profile. Do not remove a necessary support to match the yo-yo body alone to a smaller box. Compatibility between the support and the individual finish remains a product-specific question.

Plan the resting orientation and retrieval route
Record how the filled display is intended to rest and which way its cover opens. A case with feet on two surfaces still needs its own instructions for changing position and handling its contents. Do not infer that every orientation retains every yo-yo or permits a loaded move.
Choose a central position and describe how that piece comes out with the intended support and string. A close compartment may leave little gripping room even when the body fits. Keep the removal sequence separate from the nominal capacity, especially if neighboring pieces must move first.
For a separate acrylic cover, provide a suitable resting place for it during access. Four magnets describe a closure feature of the cited sOMEThING case; they are not a stated stacking load or a general transport restraint.
Use the yo-yo profile and position worksheet for the actual dimensions, case version and remaining questions. The usable-space guide explains why an outer case size and a finished receiving depth must stay separate.
Common questions
Can I choose a compartment using diameter alone?
No. Include total axial width, projections, support and string state in the actual display orientation.
Does a 30-position case hold any 30 yo-yos?
A nominal count supplies no universal receiving size. Obtain the clear dimensions and support details for the selected variant and collection.
Does an open display stand include a clear case?
Only when the exact package states that it does. The cited Black Cradle description supplies one stand and excludes the yo-yo; it does not specify an enclosing cover.
