Choose a LEGO Silent Mary display case for set 71042 and a defined mast position. The ghost ship becomes wider when its main mast is collapsed, while its hinged bow, opening hull and separate ghost sharks create other display choices. A case advertised for the ship does not automatically receive every attack-mode scene.
The official width changes when the main mast comes down
LEGO’s official 71042 specification gives the ship, with its main mast vertical, as over H48 × L68 × W22 cm. It also states a width of over 36 cm with that mast collapsed. Keep the mast condition attached to the reference.
That wider state matters when comparing a 26 cm or 28 cm labelled interior. The difference does not demonstrate a receiving plan for the collapsed mast, nor does a picture of the upright ship establish one. Obtain confirmation for the actual prepared scene and its orientation; do not bend rigging or remove part of the mast to recover an assumed allowance.
The main mast is only part of the outline. LEGO also identifies two further masts, a long bowsprit, tattered sails, a movable rudder and an integrated display stand. Record those retained projections with the completed model rather than measuring only the hull.
Choose what stays in the ship and what appears beside it
| Prepared scene | Include together | Separate enquiry |
|---|---|---|
| Upright main mast | Whole supported ship, sails, bowsprit and chosen rudder state. | Intended case orientation and cavity above its finished floor. |
| Collapsed main mast | The actual wider settled mast and sail arrangement. | Explicit receiving plan for that state, not upright compatibility. |
| Attack-mode presentation | Selected raised bow and opened skeleton hull. | Complete settled outline; movement and hand access remain separate. |
| Sharks and boat on view | Two ghost sharks, rowboat, oars, figures and retained accessories. | Proper supports and real positions outside the principal ship. |
LEGO describes raising the hinged bow and opening the skeleton hull to change from sailing to attack mode. Opening the mid-hull also gives access to the detachable ghost sharks. A completed display can show a selected state without providing space to perform the transition beneath a closed cover.
Decide whether the rowboat and sharks remain stored, sit beside the ship or are kept elsewhere. Give any separated pieces their own positions and suitable supports. The eight included minifigures also need a deliberate arrangement if they stay on view; an apparently spare front strip is not a documented receiving map.
Compare a labelled interior with the whole chosen ship state
The following descriptions were read on 18 October 2026. They are published specifications, without DisplayCasePro physical fitting, lighting or protection tests.
| Source | Published figures | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| iDisplayit | Inside L78 × W26 × H52 cm; outside L80 × W28 × H53 cm. | Selected mast, bow, hull and accessory state above the actual floor. |
| Scoparius | Box Size 75 × 32 × 54 cm. | Axes and inside/outside unlabelled; exact base and door option. |
| ONBRICK, 71042 variant | Internal L750 × D280 × H510 mm. | Complete exterior and intended ship scene for this selected model. |
ONBRICK’s shared product includes many different LEGO models. Retain its specific 71042 dimension row and printing choice. Its general statement about extra outside size is not a substitute for a labelled finished exterior drawing, especially when a custom door or cable opening is requested.
The similarly named Project Hail Mary case in the research sample names 11389. It is a different model, not another 71042 enclosure. The three cases above should not be described as five interchangeable Silent Mary products.
A ring-light option does not describe every version
Scoparius separately lists basic base finishes, ring-light versions and an alloy-frame version. Its ring-light description includes a white top strip, USB connection, sliding door and mirror floor sheet. Keep those features with the exact selected version rather than assigning them to every basic black or wood-grain option.
The described constructions also distinguish PVC foam board, natural wood and an alloy frame. Ask for the actual finished-floor datum and clear opening of the quoted product. A thicker base material does not become extra interior height, and a mirror changes the view without establishing additional space.

Keep the cover route separate from the ship’s moving features
Confirm the case’s own routine opening method before planning access to the hull or mast. A sliding-door description needs its clear aperture and approach; a panel kit needs its actual access instructions. Reserve somewhere for removed enclosure parts to rest, clear of the bowsprit and sails.
Use the Silent Mary state and scene worksheet with the LEGO shelf-case guide and measurement guide.
Common questions
Does a 71042 fit statement include the collapsed main mast?
Obtain confirmation for that state. LEGO’s cited width increases from over 22 cm with the main mast vertical to over 36 cm when it is collapsed.
Does room for a prepared attack pose prove it can open inside?
A settled outline and a movement path are separate requirements. Establish enclosure access before following the actual model instructions.
