Choose a LEGO McLaren P1 display case for 42172 by deciding whether the car will sit level, use an angled stand or form an open-door scene. Then compare the complete arrangement with a labelled interior and reserve the full base footprint on your furniture. Case height alone does not tell you whether the doors or rear wing can operate inside.
42172 has more than one display outline
The official McLaren P1 specification describes a 1:8 model over H14 × L59 × W25 cm, opening doors with a butterfly-style mechanism and an adjustable rear wing. Those reference dimensions identify the model; they do not specify every door and wing position.
A display with both doors down can show the body's continuous profile. An open-door presentation emphasizes the cockpit and changes the upper and lateral outline. An angled stand changes the whole assembly again. Choose one complete pose before comparing cases, including the rear wing's intended position.
The published car dimensions do not include a raised base, a stand, a case plaque or an added lighting cable. If you already have an aftermarket support, identify its exact version. A support designed for the car does not establish that its loaded outline fits another maker's enclosure.
A display-solutions category contains separate products
The Wicked Brick P1 category places a tabletop case, an open display stand, a wall-mounted case and an open wall display alongside one another. Treat those as separate format choices. Buying an open stand is not buying an enclosed case, and category photography does not establish the contents of a different product.
| Format | Useful decision | Evidence still required |
|---|---|---|
| Level tabletop enclosure | Favor the car's body line and a low presentation. | Exact settled pose, clear cavity, plaque position and opening method. |
| Enclosure with angled stand | Make an inclined body/cockpit view part of the scene. | The actual included stand and complete supported dimensions, including chosen doors and wing. |
| Wall display | Use a separate mounted presentation instead of occupying a tabletop. | The selected product's support, fixing requirements, front projection and whether it has a closing surround. |
The tabletop case page describes its clear surround, plaque and optional background. The separate stand card in the category does not make that stand an included component of this case. Confirm the actual order contents if your intended arrangement relies on one.
Compare the cavity and the footprint in separate passes
These published examples were read on 17 October 2026. They describe different assemblies and dimension reference surfaces. They are not ranked by performance, price or spare space, and none has been physically tested for this guide.
| Case | Published dimensions | How to use the information |
|---|---|---|
| Wicked Brick 42172 tabletop | W66 × D39 × H20.3 cm; not labelled inside/outside. | Request the clear cavity and intended pose. Do not import the separate stand's geometry. |
| Flying Box 42172 | Case L25.5 × W14 × H8 in; separate base 26 × 14.5 in. | The case line is not marked internal/external. Reserve the larger base footprint and confirm the usable space. |
| Elevenmark 42172 | L70 × W31.5 × H22 cm; not marked internal/external. | Obtain dimensions for the exact opening and flat/sloped option, rather than treating all variants as one cavity. |
| shopPOPdisplays 42172 | Approximately external, including base: H13.7 × W26.8 × D17.5 in. | Use it for furniture placement. It does not supply an interior or the dimensions of any additional support. |
| Kingdom Brick Supply 42172 case & stand | Approximate inside L64.8 × W36.0 × H26.4 cm; outside L66.3 × W37.5 × H27.3 cm. | A custom angled Technic stand is explicitly included. Confirm the full posed car and feature states assumed by these dimensions. |
For Flying Box, a shelf that accepts the quoted case rectangle still needs to receive the separately specified base. Keep both lines in your record. The product describes a flat base; that does not certify room for a stand or open doors added later.
Kingdom Brick Supply provides both internal and external figures and names an angled stand. Its separate 80 × 44 stud statement is not a substitute for the complete supported-model outline. Ask which door and rear-wing states the fitted arrangement accommodates.
The taller external shopPOPdisplays figure does not establish more usable room than another product's explicit internal height. Different axes, bases and support assumptions prevent that conclusion. Establish each definition before treating a numerical difference as a practical advantage.
Treat the doors and adjustable wing as a combined scene
Record the left and right doors separately if their displayed positions differ. Include the rear wing in the same profile. Checking one raised door and then one raised wing independently does not show that the whole preferred arrangement fits together under the cover.
Keep the scene's resting outline separate from feature operation. A box may receive a defined open-door pose without providing the room to swing the doors through their full movement after closing. Establish access before making changes unless the supplier specifically documents in-case operation for your complete setup.
Wicked Brick describes lifting the clear surround and returning it to base grooves. Its route must clear the highest selected feature. A case with a front opening or flip cover has a different opening path, so confirm its actual panel motion and the space available on your furniture.

Option labels need their own component check
Elevenmark offers Car Door Style, Car Rear Style and Lighting editions alongside opening-version labels. The listed combinations are not identical across all editions. A name such as Car Door Style does not certify door movement inside the enclosure; it can identify the presentation rather than a mechanical clearance.
The same page's general lift-off wording does not explain every magnetic front-opening or flip-cover version. Obtain instructions for the exact combination. Ask whether the sloped option includes a fitted support, what contacts the model, and which dimensions belong to that option.
shopPOPdisplays describes ready-to-assemble and permanently assembled approaches, a lighted option and printed backgrounds. Confirm the actual supplied construction before planning access. A printed rear is a viewing choice, and a lighted product still needs a defined power and cable route. UV-printed artwork is not an independently measured UV-filter specification.
Kingdom Brick Supply explicitly says its case is not designed to be relocated with the LEGO set inside. Keep that restriction with the exact product. Do not use a completed case as a carrying container just because the stand holds the model in a display position.
Use the blank P1 case worksheet to record support, doors, wing, cavity, base and access. The collection measurement guide explains the occupied-outline record; the lighting guide covers the separate view, reflection and cable questions.
Common questions
Does every P1 case include an angled stand?
No. Confirm the exact product's order contents. One cited listing explicitly includes a custom angled stand; another category sells its stand separately from its tabletop case.
Can I compare all quoted heights directly?
Keep internal, external and unspecified heights separate. Then compare the same supported pose, door state and rear-wing position with a confirmed receiving cavity.
Does the model fit if its reference length is smaller than the case length?
Length alone is insufficient. The support, width, height, accessories, base intrusions and entry route also need to be established for the selected arrangement.
