LEGO Mars Rover Display Cases: 42158 and Ingenuity

A LEGO Mars Rover Perseverance display case should receive the complete 42158 scene you intend to show, including Ingenuity. A rover resting on six wheels and an angled rover beneath a hovering helicopter have different support and space requirements. Choose that scene first, then compare labelled case interiors with the whole supported arrangement.

The rover reference does not define the hovering scene

LEGO’s official 42158 specification describes 360-degree steering, a movable arm and articulated suspension across six wheels. Cameras, antennae and scientific instruments form part of the model, and a buildable Ingenuity helicopter is included.

The descriptive reference is over H23 × L32 × W23 cm, also given as over H9 × L12.5 × W9 in. Retain “over” and the reference context. That line does not dimension the combined rover, helicopter and a third-party hover support in every arrangement.

Photograph or sketch your chosen settled pose from the front and side. Include the arm, camera and antenna projections rather than measuring only the wheels and body. Identify where Ingenuity will sit and how its rotor outline relates to the rover and the enclosure.

Keep wheel stance, arm pose and helicopter position together

Three 42158 display scenes to brief separately
SceneInclude in its occupied outlineAsk the maker
Rover on its wheels, helicopter beside itSettled steering/suspension, arm state and the separate helicopter/rotor footprint.Where do both models sit on the intended base?

Helicopter hovering above the roverBoth supported models, rotor spread, plaques and the complete support system. Is the helicopter mount included, and what is the finished scene height?

A movable arm can be left in one display position while its other positions are demonstrated after opening. Record that choice. A box receiving the settled rover has not automatically been checked for the arm’s full sweep, steering changes or a new suspension stance.

A Mars print supplies a visual setting. It does not describe raised terrain, a wheel-support system or an attachment for Ingenuity. If an actual raised support is part of the scene, include its intended placement and the supported objects in the same measurement record.

Match the dimension definitions before comparing heights

Five Perseverance 42158 case descriptions
Exact casePublished sizeSupport or boundary question
Wicked Brick 42158W40 × D37 × H31.3 cm; boundary unlabelled.Angled rover stem and elevated Ingenuity mount described; clear interior still needed.
iDisplayit 42158Inside L47 × W26 × H24 cm; outside L49 × W28 × H25 cm.Confirm the actual two-model arrangement and included supports.
FantasMall 4215840 × 30 × 25 cm; FAQ calls labelled sizes internal, axes unstated.Obtain axis labels, complete exterior and intended model positions.
AquaRainbow 42158 LED caseApproximate inside L55 × W35 × H30 cm.Clarify the finished-floor height datum, current light version and supplied equipment.
Songlection 42158Inside W55 × D25 × H25 cm.Confirm the whole supported scene and exact outside footprint.

iDisplayit provides both boundaries. Its 24 cm inside height is not comparable with Wicked Brick’s unlabelled 31.3 cm product height without the latter’s clear cavity and supported scene. The rover’s reference height cannot be subtracted from both figures to create equivalent spare room.

FantasMall’s FAQ calls its size internal but leaves the axes in the 40 × 30 × 25 cm sequence unstated. Preserve that uncertainty. Its rounded inch figures and general advice about extra exterior dimensions do not supply an exact dimensioned drawing for the chosen assembly.

Songlection specifies a 10 mm PVC base, 3 mm acrylic boards and acrylic connectors and screws. A base thickness does not by itself locate the starting surface for every quoted height. Ask where the supported rover rests and which parts remain in the receiving space.

Identify what supports the rover and what holds Ingenuity

Wicked Brick explicitly describes a vertical stem holding the rover at an angle and a separate clear mount presenting Ingenuity above it. Keep those two supports in the package record. The helicopter is not shown to be carried by a scientific arm merely because it appears above the rover.

Request the intended contacts, included pieces and a complete supported-scene drawing or specification. The product description does not give a numerical rover angle or a contact map. Do not invent either from the enclosure’s overall size or substitute a stand intended for another vehicle.

For the other four products, obtain their own arrangement. A listing named 42158 can describe an enclosure around both models without documenting an elevated helicopter mount. A taller cavity is not the missing support system, and optional customization is not evidence that a particular stem is already included.

Invented rover-pose record, separate helicopter outline and two distinct maker-specified support questions
Invented rover and rotor symbols. No actual 42158 geometry, terrain, load-bearing connection, numerical support angle or measured case fit is depicted.

Resolve the LED version and the usable height above its base

AquaRainbow’s current listing describes an approximately 3 cm hollow black acrylic base and an LED surround. It also gives an upgrade note for color LEDs and Type-C connection, warning that pictures may show older versions. Request the actual current light, cable and power-equipment contents rather than combine every older and newer statement into one package.

Ask whether the quoted inside height begins above the finished receiving floor or another reference surface. Neither subtracting the 3 cm again nor assuming it has no effect is a verified answer. Keep the base drawing and the occupied outline of the exact rover/helicopter scene together.

Confirm the intended lighting and opening routine before choosing the final shelf. A lift-off surround needs a route past the rover’s upper details and the helicopter rotor, plus somewhere to rest. A screwed-panel construction does not establish a convenient front door. Operate or rearrange the model according to the case and support instructions after access is resolved.

The Perseverance and Ingenuity scene worksheet separates resting pose, two support systems, inside/outside boundaries and lighting equipment. Use the collection measurement guide for the overall record and the lighting guide for the viewing plan once the equipment is identified.

Printed Mars scenery and UV-printing descriptions concern appearance and production. They do not establish measured UV filtering, dust sealing or a loaded stacking rating. Keep those claims separate from the documented scene and access specification.

Common questions

Do all 42158 cases include a hovering Ingenuity mount?

The cited Wicked Brick description explicitly names one. Obtain the exact supplied supports from every other maker rather than transferring that feature by set number.

Will the published rover size cover an angled scene?

Use the whole rover and helicopter on their intended supports. The reference does not describe every supported position or the complete combined height.
