Guitar Pick Display Cases: Shapes, Inserts and Two-Sided Views

Compare guitar pick cases, shaped inserts and float frames. Check 351 versus 346 shapes, thickness, supplied parts, two-sided viewing and release before choosing.

Guitar Pick Display Cases: Shapes, Inserts and Two-Sided Views

Choose a guitar pick display case by the shape and thickness of each pick, the side you want to see and the way it leaves its holder. A shaped insert, a single-pick case with an easel and a box of playing picks are different purchases. A familiar frame size or a large pick count does not make their receiving spaces interchangeable.

A gauge is not a complete fit specification

Record the pick's full outline and thickness, including raised decoration or a retained protective holder. A flat teardrop, a rounded triangle, an unusually large promotional pick and a thumbpick do not present the same shape to a cutout. “Guitar pick” is not one standard physical outline.

Keep the maker's shape designation when one is supplied. The Buffalo Music Store example below names 351-style picks, while Plectrum Spectrum's bass insert names standard 346 rounded picks. Do not replace either description with an assumption that all picks for the same instrument fit.

The Guitar Center picks and holders category includes standard, jazz, triangle, thumb and finger shapes, alongside accessories for playing. It illustrates the variety behind the name. Its performance holders are not specifications for collectible-pick enclosures, and its gauge categories do not define a shaped insert's complete receiving space.

For a worn concert pick, retain its actual outline in the record instead of assuming it matches an unworn retail version. Note where printing or a signature lies in relation to the proposed support. A fit that covers the important mark does not complete the viewing task.

Pick-display formats with different receiving questions
FormatUseful purposeCheck before choosing
Single case and easelFeature one pick and keep its identity nearby.Accepted shape, thickness, closure and stand footprint; whether the pick itself is included.
Shaped insert in a float framePresent a group in assigned positions, with viewing from either face where accessible.Cutout family, accepted thickness, exact insert/frame combination and release method.
Wood case with multiple positionsKeep a selected group of picks together.Whether it arrives filled, which picks it targets and how the lid or cover is intended to open.
Playing holder or portable accessoryKeep working picks available during a performance. Its actual purpose and contact arrangement. Convenience while playing does not establish enclosure or collectible-print compatibility.

Gravity Picks' Wood Display Case offers 15-pick and 30-pick versions, each filled or unfilled, and describes them for Gravity Picks. Those options distinguish the contents of the purchase. They do not give numeric cutout dimensions or prove that 30 mixed souvenir shapes will fit.

A round RockStock pick display appears as another presentation. The relevant product text read supplies a title and image-based description without numeric receiving dimensions or capacity. Keep those fields unanswered rather than deriving a fit specification from the round outline.

Check shape, included parts and dimensions separately

These are attributed product descriptions read on 17 October 2026, not physical fit tests or a ranking. The frame or cover dimensions answer different questions from the pick-shaped opening.

Three named pick displays and the limits of their published specifications
DisplayPublished descriptionQuestion still to resolve
Buffalo Medium Black 351 StyleOne pick case and easel, pick excluded; 351-style shape. Acrylic cover approximately 2 in diameter; easel H1½ × W1¼ × D1½ in.The cover diameter and easel dimensions do not define the internal cutout or maximum pick thickness.
Plectrum Spectrum 35-pick display8 × 10 in display with up to 35 positions; acrylic insert and double-sided float frame included.Obtain the precise receiving shape, thickness limit and actual frame exterior. The nominal frame format is not a cutout measurement.
Plectrum Spectrum 24-pick bass display8 × 10 in format for 24 standard 346 rounded bass picks; frame included.Confirm each actual pick against that named family and the complete insert/frame arrangement, including thickness.

The two Plectrum Spectrum products share a nominal frame format while describing different receiving arrangements and counts. Do not use 35 as an upgrade that necessarily accepts everything the 24-position bass insert receives. The shaped holes, rather than the frame's headline rectangle, decide that comparison.

The same maker's category also contains an explicitly insert-only product. Check the exact listing before assuming a surrounding frame arrives with every insert. Its general introduction mentions 8 × 10 in frames, while the returned catalogue also includes 4 × 6 in products; the category introduction is not a specification for every item.

Two-sided construction needs a viewing plan

A double-sided float frame can allow the reverse to be seen from the other face. If it is placed against a wall, that face is not continuously visible from the room. Decide whether you want one preferred side on show or regular access to both.

Choose the face for each assigned position before loading a group. Artist names, tour artwork and commemorative text may not all face the same way. Keep a linked reference image of the reverse if the normal display presents only the front; identify the actual pick rather than borrowing an image of a similar retail issue.

For an easel, check the complete case and stand in their intended position. The easel's published height is not the overall height of the assembled display. Confirm the loaded profile, stability and viewing direction from the maker's actual instructions.

Shape, thickness and the complete frame assembly are separate checks. Invented picks and cutouts are not a 351 or 346 template, a contact design or a tested fit.

Retain the mark without forcing the pick into position

Ask how the intended support contacts the pick and how it releases. Buffalo's description identifies an acrylic base, foam holder, acrylic cover and easel. That component list is useful, but does not certify every ink, finish or unusually thick pick against the supplied holder.

Likewise, an insert maker's “acid-free” acrylic description does not settle pressure, accepted thickness or long-term compatibility with a particular signature. Obtain the missing receiving limits. Do not trim a collected pick, enlarge a cutout around it or add adhesive to preserve an advertised capacity.

Give each pick an identifier and record only documented associations. An artist-branded retail pick is not proof it was played onstage, and a display title cannot establish a concert date. Keep uncertain acquisition details marked as uncertain, with any existing evidence separate from the physical support.

Use the blank pick-shape and display worksheet to record shape, thickness, visible face, included components and release. The collection measurement guide covers the complete occupied profile; the usable-depth guide explains why an outside frame dimension does not supply the gap around an insert.

Common questions

Will any pick fit an 8 × 10 in pick display?

No universal fit follows from the frame format. Confirm the specific cutout family, pick thickness and included frame assembly.

Does a filled case accept my whole mixed collection?

A filled option describes supplied contents. A mixed collection still needs its own shape and thickness checks against that case's intended positions.

Can I see both sides without changing anything?

Only if the actual construction and placement provide both sightlines. A double-sided frame against a wall still needs an access plan for its rear face.
